Hello World: The Rise of Information

In October of 1969, a UCLA student by the name of Charley Kline typed the word ‘Login’ in a computer terminal within the UCLA compound. 300 miles to the north, a computer in the Stanford Research Institute (SRI) lit up and logged in. That marked the first communication in the History of the Internet.

Since then, the internet has seen improvements by leaps and bounds. From laying massive underwater cables to launching satellites into space, the ability in which we are able to share information with each other is unprecedented.

With the ease and speed of sharing information, we have seen global communities form around these capabilities just as rapidly. These communities were often characterised by a common interest in the type of information people were interested in. Often sharing and discussing in online forums or chat rooms, people around the world would flock to the community that shared information that they were interested in.
